These paintings are made from naturally available sand only. No
artificial color is used except that the outline is in black (or other
color) ink.
While, on one hand, unavailability of certain colors in natural sand limits
the choice of colors for this kind of paintings, on the other, these
paintings never fade or lose their color or texture. A vast collection of
different colors and shades of natural sand gives me enough freedom to
create a balanced color scheme for the painting.
I collect sand from various places like beaches, river banks, even from
roads and construction places! Sand thus collected can not be used directly
for painting as it contains dust particles that not only hinder
sticking of sand to the ply but also give a dull, lusterless look to the
painting.
So the raw sand goes through a rigorous cleaning, washing and drying
process to remove dust and other impurities. Then it goes through
screening (filtering) process ending in various grades and shades.
