Dhiren Parekh is a
name well known in artist community of Gujarat. Born in 1938 in
Navsari, a town considered as the hub of cultural activities in south
Gujarat, he had an inclination towards arts since his childhood.

He went for higher studies in fine arts at C.
N. Kala Mahavidhyalay, Amdavad and B.
A. Mehta Kala Mahavidhyalay, Amalsad and became Art Master
(A.M.) in1970. He worked as a drawing teacher in number of prominent
schools in Surat, south Gujarat.
To create & cultivate interest towards fine arts
in students & common people, he established an art center of his
dream: Kalaruchi Kendra (meaning,
center for developing interest in arts) in 1986. The students at Kalaruchi
Kendra have a unique opportunity to learn many creative
ways of painting like natural sand painting, stained glass painting,
painting on a stone, embossed painting on a tile, painting on aluminum
foil, carved painting on thermocol sheet etc.

Many of his students from Kalaruchi
Kendra have taken up creative arts as their profession and
have become well known in their fields.
He traveled to many places in India and other
countries like U.K., France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy to enhance
his knowledge in fine arts. In 1999, he conducted a work shop and
exhibition on natural sand paintings in London. Garvi
Gujarat - a U.K. based Gujarati magazine published his
interview during his visit to London.
He served as the convener of fine arts division of Rashtriya
Kala Kendra, a renowned institute of cultural activities in
Surat, for more than 30 years. He served as the secretary of Art
Association of Surat for 3 years.
He is often invited to serve as Judge/ Guide/
Administrator for art activities in clubs like Lion, Rotary etc. He is
invited to conduct workshops on creative arts by various schools and
other institutes.
